"Looking at the Collection: What's New" Museum purchase of three aerial photographs: "Aerial Series-1, 2, 3- "Huntsville 29.92 degree 1000' AGL," Log Book October 20, 1987"
Museum purchase of aerial views of land formations while in solo flight In a Cessna 150 airplane1000 feet above ground level with an altimeter reading of 29.92, 1987.

HISTORY OF MY AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS
I took the aerial images in 1987 while working to complete my pilot's license and living in Huntsville. I flew, often daily, out of Lacey Springs Airport into the City of Huntsville at a thousand feet above ground level. I followed the mountains on my right, the highway beneath me, and miles of farmland on my left.
One day, I saw formations in the soil below that I had never seen before. I grabbed my camera, a Nikon F3 loaded with Kodak Vericolor 160 print film, and slow-flighted to fifty-five miles per hour so I could open the window, bank the plane and take the shots.
I flew back the next day and the images were gone. The soil had been plowed back to its usual formless monochrome. To me, in these three photographs, the abstract overcomes the reality of nature.
